Fair equity for engineers vs. designers at seed stage startup?

2

How would you calculate how much equity to give to engineers vs. designers at a startup?

Should it be according to their salaries for simplicity?

  • I work as an Angel Developer for seed stage startups, I get from 5% to 20%, the number isn't only dependant on the salary but mostly with the amount of time I'll be committing and the area of expertise I will be adding to the project. For designers I cannot say. – Eren Yasarkurt 3 years ago

This is a difficult subject because "fair" is subjective.

You should real Joel Spolsky's post from 2011. It's still as relevant today as it was then:

You should check out Mike Moyer's "Slicing Pie" framework:

www.slicingpie.com

which uses dynamic equity based on actual input, for a truly fair system.
