How to get initial good reviews on Amazon for your products?

3

I'm a third party seller on Amazon with my own unique products. As such, there are no reviews for my products when I launch them.

What are some ways to get the first 10-15 positive reviews? I have a tough time believing that my competitors instantly get so many positive reviews that are from genuine customers.

White hat process:

  1. Find related products on Amazon
  2. Identify the top reviewers on those products
  3. Contact them and give your product away for free in return for an objective review

Black hat process (can get you banned on Amazon):

Give it away for free or very cheap. eBook authors do this all the time. They post a on social networks as 'free one day only' and people are guilt tripped into leaving 5 stars. Chinese factories ship the first batch of their cheap junk at below cost. Once they get so many stars (and become top bestseller), they switch their manufacturing to produce inoperative, broken, or faulty junk, and possibly raise their price. Most people might see bad reviews, but like to gamble. Those who do get a broken product, don't bother to send it back because it was low cost. You can also hire a dozen people to write reviews for you.
