How can nonprofit startups raise capital?

2

Investors invest for one thing and one thing only, return on their investment. How can a nonprofit startup that is trying to give back to the community raise any funds?

All existing funding platforms like Angel.co are geared towards for-profit companies. Are there any platforms where we could connect with philanthropists?

If one doesn't exist, that would be a great business itself.

Crowdfunding meets this need in many cases. Kickstarter, IndieGoGo, or any of the many platforms you can find by searching "kickstarter for non-profits" can help you raise funds without it being an "investment" that's expected to generate returns.

FirstGiving and Fundraise.com are two platforms in particular worth checking out.

The more traditional route you should know about is grant-writing. And you should also know that large corporations like Google offer a ton of in-kind services that can save a non-profit money. Their AdWords for non-profits program essentially gives you a free $10,000 advertising budget each month.
