Voting on comments

3

Is there any reason why there isn't voting on comments? It's helpful to have it because it helps you quickly see which comments everyone found most helpful.

It's especially helpful if there is an absolute gold comment that would be missed by people skimming the content.

  • It also eliminates/reduces the need for people to say, "Yeah, what that guy said!" without adding yet another comment. Upvoting comments would make the comment thread much shorter, and the signal-to-noise ratio will be much better. – rbwhitaker 10 years ago
  • @Nishank, you said this was going live soon, didn't you? I keep finding comments I want to vote on! – rbwhitaker 10 years ago
  • @RB, hauling ass to get it up in a day or two at most. There were some issues with it on staging (it was supposed to go live Friday night). – Nishank Khanna 10 years ago
  • It's live. Each up-vote gives the comment author 2 karma points. – Nishank Khanna 10 years ago
  • Oh, hey! SE never gave points for upvoted comments. I actually really like that. I've seen a lot of comments in my day that provide more value than the answers. This will be a nice way to reward people for that. – rbwhitaker 10 years ago
  • Speaking of SE... comment votes from the old data will get ported in at off-peak hours (should be in by AM). – Nishank Khanna 10 years ago
