How detached is Shark Tank (Dragon's Den) TV?

2

There is a chance we will be entering our first round of VC meetings soon, and I am mildly addicted to the show Shark Tank and its predecessor Dragon's Den (UK).

There is a similar thread on this topic, but I am trying to calibrate my head for negotiations during my "off time", and I'm wondering if anyone that has gone through the rigors of funding has any specific feedback about what rings true about the show and what is just TV fluff.

  • You can assume it is all TV fluff. TV is entertainment. You're better off reading venture hacks and other startup blogs and VC blogs and angel blogs to get some information. – Tim J 13 years ago
  • Shark Tank is to the VC process what The Simpsons is to family life or The Family Guy is to parenting or The Hilton sisters are to . .. . well, anything. – Joseph Barisonzi 13 years ago

Try this week in startups or their new URL its a great weekly podcast that does a good version and interviews startups from all around the world.

These guys will give you a good feeling for what is good and bad in a pitch, what is real and what is TV drama.

Also from the same network, have a look at this week in venture capital which gives a good insight from "the other side".
