From my experience, Virtual incubation can be useful only in case that the organization that is organising the program has a clear plan on what should be done on a weekly basis, for each of the stakeholders involved.

In our open incubation platform for social enterprises, called Babele, we have a very active incubation communities with more than 800 people actively involved, who come from 45 different countries, who participate in a dynamic process of co-development, mentoring and peer-learning.

Other communities do not manage to achieve these rates of performance. Why? After some investigation, we discovered that the incubators failing to create such dynamics, are the incubators that do lack the adequate structure and norms to make the program effective.

Therefore the solution is very simple:

  • Need of a clear plan of the things that will be done and the role of each member of the community;
  • Need to invest on a community manager, that fosters the collaboration and the participants re-activity.
