Well we had done some consulting to a local store on how to improve their sales using mobile technologies and social media. Here are the services that we offered to them which increased their overall customer base greatly in the end:

  • Foursquare campaign management really works great if you are aiming to pull in some customers. People love to get stuff for a cheaper price or get a present with the product they are buying. Even if they don't when they click to see nearby businesses they will see you and with a self explaining title you will make a place in their heads.
  • Registering yourself to Google Places will make you appear in Google Maps mobile applications. That way when people type what they want to buy, your store will show up. I use that feature a lot when I want to buy a screwdriver or even find an electrician.
  • Get yourself a Facebook app and have people interact with the app on a basis related to your store. Give real world prizes to the winners. Have the facebook friends of the app users vote so the people entering the competition would tell their friends to vote, giving you a viral growth. With this method we were able to get 2 million insights on a month on Facebook.

These are the things I can think of. Let me know if you have any questions about the methods I listed above.
