Facebook hashtags: Does it generate extra exposure?

Does using hashtags in your Facebook posts generate extra exposure? Does Facebook make use of the hashtag data in their search?

Hashtags are more apparent in Twitter but their use on Facebook is more of a mystery. Have you experienced any benefits from using them?

From the research I've read, it doesn't.

When Facebook launched hashes, the assumption was that if you see a hashtag you're interested in, you will click it to discover other posts with the same tag.

But many people have benchmarked their results with and without hashtags. And it turned out not having hashtags resulted in more engagement and higher viral reach.
