Starting a website and wondering if I can use companies logos or product images (in a praising manner)?

2

I am seeking to start a promotional website for a specific business platform and have descriptions of companies and their products on it. These descriptions include what type of products they have, if the company does charitable work and if they are particularly environmentally efficient, made in the USA, etc. What can I and can't I use? Since it's all promotional and positive I don't see what the problem would be but I'm veering away from using logos just in case. However I feel I should be able to write basic descriptions and post images of their products?

You can write a review about anything. It would be best to get their permissions to use their logos, but they can't stop you for exercising your right to free speech, as long as it is not libelous, and even then you are allowed if you can prove it is true. You may even be able to use their logos without permission if you artistically modify it, as it would then be a derivative work, and privy to the 1st amendment. This happens often with satire and parodies. Of course, it would have to pass the jury test of 'no reasonable person' would mistake it for the original logo.
