Is there a Terms of Service (TOS) template that I can use for my SaaS product? Please help, I am a geek and this is new to me

I am at a point where I need to have a Terms of Service (TOS) page ready before I launch my SaaS product. Is there a template somewhere that I can use, or is this something that only a lawyer can help me with?

  • Good question - need one myself. All I know at this point is any contract you're expecting your clients to agree to has to be a two way thing and give them some security as well as you the vendor. – Benmcfc 14 years ago

I don't have much experience with this myself, but I've looked into it, and I found the following questions helpful (although you may have already seen them):

  1. Putting Together a Privacy Policy and Terms of Service
  2. Is it okay to plagiarize another website's Terms of Use and Privacy Policy?
  3. Does plagiarism apply to legal documents?
You can try the free privacy policy generator at http://www.freeprivacypolicy.com and customize it for your needs.

Also the Wordpress TOS is licensed under Creative Commons and seems to be a popular one to use as a template/base for your own.

I don't see anything wrong with using one of these templates to start off with. However, once your product starts getting some traction I would definitely have one drawn up for me by an attorney.

Hope this helps!

  • Thanks for all the great links, I'll try the free privacy generator to see what it generates, I am up for an hour of boring reading... Thanks! – Ricardo 14 years ago
  • Funny how you [tell others that StackExchange doesn't allow product/service recommendation type questions](http://answers.onstartups.com/questions/49212/what-startup-application-platforms-do-incubators-accelerator-use-to-manage-their#comment41327_49212), and then you answer one yourself. – Dan Dascalescu 11 years ago
  • @DanDascalescu This question was asked in 2010. We are now almost halfway through 2013. Please take the time to learn about this site's history before accusing me of things that are not true. I wasn't even the moderator that closed your question, so I'm baffled by your response to start attacking me. I simply left you a comment providing you with more information, so that you could edit your question accordingly. I was trying to help you. – Zuly Gonzalez 11 years ago
  • In any event, thank you for pointing this question out to me. I have now closed it. You are neglecting to see all the other questions and answers of mine I have personally closed and deleted because they no longer fit our site's new rules. I'm guessing you have more important things to do, but you are welcome to go through all 281 of my answers and flag any that are inappropriate. – Zuly Gonzalez 11 years ago
