What's a reasonable "trial" project for a potential non-technical cofounder?

I have a software product which has been developed to the demo-able stage and I'm currently pitching it to potential customers. It's a B2B product, with a small number of big sales, as opposed to a larger number of small sales.

I found some sales and business development people who are interested in working with me part-time, and potentially become full-time.

I would like to do a 1 to 2 month trial period with them to see how it works out.

  • What would be reasonable goals and expectations for a non-technical cofounder at this point?
  • How should I compensate them?

I've never managed anyone who wasn't a developer before, so I'm not sure how to evaluate the quality of their work and how to value it fairly.
